What to expect during your earwax removal procedure

You will be seen by a fully-trained and certified professional. The appointment can take around 45-60 minutes depending on the blockage and how many ears require clearing. This includes a full ear health check on both ears and a hearing test. We only carry our micro-suction for a maximum of 15 mins per ear per appointment. 

Earwax removal is safe and pain-free. Micro-suction is the most effective method of clearing earwax from the ear canal, however there may be occasions when irrigation is also required. If this is required the ear health care professional will explain the process and carry out the necessary procedures. 

Every appointment includes an Ear Health check and hearing test. Our healthcare profession can identify problems within the ear canal and during the hearing test. our state of the art equipment allows us to send pictures, videos and data directly to your GP. 

It is very important that you, disclose all ear health conditions to your healthcare professional prior to your earwax removal procedure. This includes:

• A recurring ear infection or infection in the last 3 months. 
• Had ear surgery in the past. 
• Suspect that you have a perforated eardrum. 
• Any fluid or discharge from within the ear in the last 3 months.
• Are currently suffering from tinnitus. 

It is really important to soften the earwax within the affected ear, prior to the micro-suction appointment. To do this apply olive oil ear drops to the affected ear twice daily 7 days leading up to your appointment. In more stubborn cases sodium bicarbonate eardrops may be required to compliment the olive oil.  You can get olive oil and sodium bicarbonate ear drops or spray from a local chemist, please follow the instruction leaflet within the box.
