The NHS, through your local GP, no longer provides ear wax removal as it has ceased to be considered an essential service. To have wax impactions and blockages removed from the ear canal, patients must seek private treatment providers.
Removing impacted earwax is widely recommended by the medical community. One of the most effective methods of removing earwax is through micro-suction where a small suction device removes softened earwax. We can also use irrigation techniques in conjunction with micro-suction for the more stubborn impactions.
In the vast majority of cases earwax removal through micro-suction is pain free. The procedure can feel a little strange and the noise of the micro-suction machine is a little loud, however there should be no pain throughout the procedure. In some cases, due to medical complications within the ear, the procedure may become uncomfortable. If this was to happen during your appointment, our earwax removal specialist would stop the procedure, investigate the problem and make the appropriate referral, ensuring you get the treatment you require.
It is best practice for our earwax removal specialists to work on each ear for a maximum of 15 minutes. Another 20 minutes should be allowed for hearing test and time to set up and pack away equipment. This means that an appointment should be 50 minutes at the very most.
To book an appointment simply contact our team via our contact details in the above section. We are also on socials such as Facebook and WhatsApp if those are your preferred communication methods. Our earwax removal specialist carry out the procedure in one of our clinics or in the comfort of your own home.
The most important thing to do in preparation for your appointment is to soften your earwax as much as possible with medical olive oil. We recommend the olive oil be applied to the affected ear at least twice daily for at least three day.
We ask that you provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment at EarDerma Clinic Kernow. This allows us to offer the appointment slot to another patient in need of care.
Every patient is unique with differing needs and requirements. For example, patients who wear hearing aid devices may suffer from impactions at a quicker rate than those who don't. Your individual needs can be discussed with our earwax removal specialist during your appointment but most people have repeat appointments on a basis of between 4 and 12 months.
